Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education

Program Objective:

The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood focuses on children and their classroom (or daycare facility ) in the context of their family, culture and community. The degree includes a range of courses in developmentally and culturally appropriate instruction and care.  

The courses can lead to graduate studies or career opportunities in Early Childhood Education and related fields  while providing enrichment in areas of personal interest.

A minimum of 30 semester hours must be completed through Maalot. 

The Judaic Studies requirement may be fulfilled with Judaic Studies courses  with no restriction on the number of  lower level credits. Please refer to the transfer of credit policy in the catalog.  These courses must be based on traditional and classic sources and may be in REL, PHI, LAN, TAL, OR ETH as they relate to Judaic Studies.

Program Learning Outcomes 

Each course within the program is designed to achieve these stated program learning outcomes.

PLO1: Child Development and Learning Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of child development theories, stages, and milestones, and apply this knowledge to create developmentally appropriate and inclusive learning environments and experiences.

PLO2: Curriculum Design and Implementation Design and implement developmentally appropriate, evidence-based curricula and instructional strategies across key learning domains, including literacy, mathematics, creative arts, play-based learning, and social-emotional development.

PLO3: Assessment and Data-Driven Instruction Utilize diverse assessment tools and strategies to monitor children’s progress, evaluate learning outcomes, inform instruction, and effectively communicate findings to families and stakeholders.

PLO4: Health, Safety, and Wellness Apply principles of health, safety, and nutrition to promote the physical and mental well-being of children. Develop and maintain safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environments, and demonstrate preparedness for emergencies.

PLO5: Creativity and Play Design and implement environments and activities that foster creativity, play, and artistic expression as essential components of child development, encouraging exploration, imagination, and innovation.

PLO6: Diversity and Inclusion Demonstrate cultural competence and responsiveness by creating inclusive learning environments that respect and address the needs of children with diverse cultural, linguistic, and developmental backgrounds, including those with special needs.

PLO7: Family and Community Engagement Build collaborative partnerships with families, schools, and communities to support children’s holistic development. Implement strategies that foster family involvement, respect diverse family structures, and promote culturally responsive communication.

PLO8: Program Leadership and Administration Apply leadership and management skills to effectively administer early childhood education programs. This includes planning, evaluation, compliance with licensing standards, marketing, and personnel management to ensure high-quality program operations.

PLO9: Technology Integration Incorporate appropriate technologies and digital tools into curriculum and instruction to enhance children’s learning experiences, support diverse learners, and foster digital literacy and responsible technology use.

PLO10: Professionalism and Ethical Practice Demonstrate and evaluate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and reflective practices in early childhood education through reflective practice, continuous professional development, and collaboration with colleagues to enhance teaching.
